Haworthia mutica is a small, stemless succulent native to the Western Cape of South Africa, prized for its architectural, star-shaped rosettes and translucent leaf “windows.” Each triangular leaf tip features a flat, striated window that allows sunlight to penetrate for photosynthesis, an adaptation for partially buried growth in its natural rocky habitat. Under bright light, the leaves can develop copper or orange tones, adding seasonal interest. In spring or summer, it produces slender stalks with small, tubular greenish-white flowers veined in brown or purple.
